Templates
I really liked the templates, I was able to find a great deal of stuff I will use in the future. This website makes it much easier for just about everything I would want.
Another Great Class!
Thank you for another excellent class! How many classes do you have to attend in a row to become a groupie? There are so many little things I learned in this class like shortcuts, watermarks, and templates. I love the setup of this class and am looking forward to taking the next two. These classes have been a huge help, and has really helped in my classroom. Thank you again!

Templates are awesome!
I love all the different templates out there! It is so nice to not have to reinvent the wheel. This has been a great discovery for me. However, I am having trouble with trying to get my backgrounds to print. Any advice?

Thanks so much
I have learned a lot and appreciate the help you have provided throughout the month. I needed the tips that you provided on tables, watermarks, borders, etc.
Thanks
It was a fun class to be a part and I am happy many of you were able to help one another walk through some of our issues we were having. I am looking forward to using my Word and now not getting frustrated on some of the issues I was having before. I truly did like seeing others work and getting some ideas from all of you about what I could use in the classroom, ie. substitue feedback form and borrowed items checkout.
So long, farewell......
I have really learned a lot of neat stuff in this class, and I thank you, Chris and Deb, for all the help (again). Exploring all the templates was fascinating - I think about all the time I've spent trying to compose brochures, etc., and never knew how. As a matter of fact, I missed the class about the templates, and so created my brochure by designing a landscape document in three columns. I wasn't real thrilled about the effect, so I know that I want to redo my brochure using a template, which I'm sure will make it look much more professional. And I always wanted business cards for my yearbook adviser status, so I'm really tickled that I have learned how to do that. Posters, invitations, labels - all this has been SO good to learn.
I stil have an awful lot to learn, especially when I look at the products my fellow classmates have created, and I have no idea as to how they've done these cool things. I'm still struggling with text boxes not doing what I want them to do, and trying (still) to figure out how to make a mirror image, but I guess it will come with practice. But I am really grateful that I've made this kind of progress, and believe me, for me this is a big deal!
Thanks, Chris and Deb, for three great classes!

Burning a CD
I have many pictures from parents and coaches that are on my email or hard drive that I would not need for future references. I liked the CD burner to store photo's and keep a file for historic and famous athletes and coaches that come through Hale. This is a great "DUDE" way of storing photo's.
Great Class!
I found the toolbars great to learn about ie. textwrap to move the text/picture around easily very helpful. I have used it several times since I learned it. The Mail Merge class was a great refresher course, I think this is one of those things if you don't use it you lose it. Therefore, the notes will be helpful to have in the future. It was fun and challenging to make the tri-fold brochure. I don't know that I would personally want to use Microsoft Word to do this as I feel there are better programs for a brochure but its great to know you have an option. The table inserts were also a good review. Thank for making this class enjoyable. I look forward to any future classes you would have. Everyone is very helpful and it makes learning easy.
Drawing Canvas
Thank you for showing me how to stop having the drawing canvas show up. For those who can't remember. Go to tools- options- general- and make sure the automatic create drawing canvas when inserting autoshapes is not checked .
Deb and Chris thank you for everything.
Deb and Chris thank you for everything.
Last Class
Last class today. I've learned a lot. In a matter of a few weeks I've been transformed from a basic black and white, same letter style, very boring document guy to all the "bells and whistles" of the "fancy stuff" including borders, inserted pictures, clip art, etc.
Thanks!

Labels
Hallelujah! Now I can easily make labels for my Christmas cards....I am going to look into how I will use them for the classroom though....
I will definitely use the mail merge idea to merge into my certificate so I do not need to write them all....great!

whewwwww...........
This has been a busy, if not productive, evening. I had to learn how to mail merge, and I can see that this would be most helpful in getting information out to the many different students I have to contact over the year for yearbook issues. The templates are also interesting to utilize - I have wanted to do some of these things, like posters and invitations, but never knew how to incorporate the different elements to come up with something decent. Now I know exactly (well, maybe not exactly - I'll have to ask Lonnie for help) what to do when I want to create something like this.
Again, since I don't have my own classroom, I was a little stymied as to what to put in a rubric, but - voila - I came up with a basic idea for checking off our yearbook pages, something that's sadly been missing. I know for sure I will have to refine this, but it's a starting point, at least.
Feel better soon, Chris!

Templates
I really enjoyed experimenting with all the different templates. This for sure is going to make my life alot easier. Know more thinking about different designs. Just go to Microsoft office.
Templates
I found the templates to be very beneficial to me and make life easier for myself, coaches, parents, athletes, and administration. It is also adaptable to inserts to make the certificate your own. Many times templates can make your job efficient by doing things the dude way. Both Cmax and the Kuhl-1 can attest to templates from another source.
Well - not having access to the Active X downloading capability, I fell victim to the "Dude Way" and now am forever humbled by the boys -
I am excited I learned how to get my boxes in the calendar to print. Yeah - thanks to those who showed me.
I am excited to have used the wide variety of templates that are readily available - time savers - right up my alley.

Labels and business cards
I was very interested in learning how to create labels using the mail merge feature. This should be a real timesaver. I also am amazed by the microsoft online website. There is so much that is offered in so many categories. I know I will be using this for all walks of my life.
I was having a hard time finding a way to copy my information from my first business card to the rest of the template. I tried using the group feature but wasn't having any success. Does anyone know a way to do this?

Brochure & Word Art
I was very frustrated with the brochure and trying to bounce around with the 3 different sets of columns. I used a lot of word art and when I went back to type in some info. everything would move. I did numerous backspaces and enters to get everything to fit. On the happy side, I used word art and used thick outlines to enhance the letters.
As I make my certificate - from scratch - I realized how time consuming this is and wish that our templates could be pulled up to save time. I can appreciate how to make my own - if ever needed - but I must say, I am finding my creative side dwindling with the tedious tasks. I don't wish to sound negative, I am just trying to be practical with my time and now know if I cannot access a template - I probably would just buy pre-made certificates to save me time.

Brochure
I have also been working tediously on my brochure. The color copy from my home printer looks so much better than my black and white brochure. I had a little bit of a hard time with printing the pictures. The exposure seems so dark. Is there a way to adjust this on the computer before I print? I have been working ahead a little on the templates and am amazed at what is all out there!

border on brochure pages
I've enjoyed learning all the new info. in our class! I was working on the brochure and can not get a border on each page- it goes on the entire page. Any ideas on how to do this? I may need assistance with getting a template for the brocure tomorrow!

A question...
I had to miss class Tuesday evening, but have been working on my assignments, and completed both the poster and the certificate. Hope someone can help me with this - I created my certificate, and put a background on it (canvas). When I printed it, the texture background didn't come through, and I thought it was perhaps too light. I tried again, this time with a pattern instead of a texture - little tiny black dots. When I printed that, it, too, came through plain with no pattern. Any ideas why?? It looked SO much cooler with the canvas texture! I'm really glad to have had the oppportunities for the assignments so far. As the yearbook adviser at Hale, all of these things have been so helpful!!!!!
Also, I missed the information on creating a brochure, so can anyone direct me as to where I should go to set that up on Microsoft?

Cursor
While doing my certificate I inserted word art, and a couple of pics. Now I want the cursor in a certain spot on the bottom to do some typing. I can not move the cursor without moving my word art and pics all over the place. Any advice? I did format the pics to tight. Word art seems to be the road block.

Brochure
Finding a good brochure template took some time but I guess it makes it much easier to do then figuring out what goes where on a three column brochure from scratch. The brochure is taking a long time to complete. I still need a lot of practice using the word draw tools and making my assignments look as nice as Lonnie's. I really think the mail merge is going to help a great deal in the future.
Mail Merge Question
I used a "random letter" from one of my classmates to practice mail merges....is it OK if I printed those last night to show you I had done it? Should we be turning those in with our portfolios though, or should I have turned it in last night?
Mail Merge
I am hoping that we find a way to use the merging ability in emails! I write letters to parents via email a lot and it is always pretty generic. It would be great to personalize them, but with 150 students I will stick with the generic letter until we figure out the merging within emails....so, help if you know how!

Hallelujah!
The mail merge/address label feature may very well save sanity between my fiance and me. We are getting married in October, and we are doing our own invitations. After addressing 175 envelopes for save the date, I was not looking forward to doing the invitation addresses. The mail merge will save countless hours when I can make out address labels. We made up our guest list on www.theknot.com and you can export your list into an excel document. We can now use that document to merge our addresses. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'll see you next week.
Merging Addresses
I am very excited about using the address merger next year for my health classes. My plans are to use it when we send out the Human Growth letter. Normally I would have the students fill out their own address onto a envelope. Now I can use the address merger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Life is great.
Another interesting class
I think the mail merge will be very valuable. I have to play around with it to figure out how to use it in email. If anyone finds out, let me know. The brochures and certificates were pretty simple. I like how practical these assignments are. Thanks!

learning new things!
I enjoyed learning the basic word features that we had done for our first class. This class is pushing me to explore things I certainly would not do on my own!

Glad to be back to class this week. Thanks for starting class off with questions and helping us trouble shoot (so that I could actually get back on to this blog)!! This is a very helpful class and it is nice to be able to feel free to ask the questions I need to help me improve my microsoft word skills. Thank you, ladies!
So Far So Good
I haven't run into any problems yet (it's only the 1st week though). I have been able to pick a couple of shortcuts, that's been nice! I am anxious to learn about some of the thinks coming up. Thank you!

Flip chip a photo
In order to flip a photo to mirror the original, one must make sure a little green dot is in the center of the photo just above the clear dot. I tried to flip a photo I originally had on a document, but it would not flip. I deleted the photo and downloaded the same photo with the little green dot and it flipped.

tools for microsoft
This is great. Having the abilty to wrap pictures or saying under the text is cool. It's like being a kid in a candy store.
Problem with border
I am having a problem with the border not showing up on the bottom of the page when I want to print it. I have tried changing the margins, deleting the border and putting in a new one, but it still doesn't work. Anyone have any suggestions.
Wooooo! I feel good........
This is the third computer class I've taken with Debbie and Chris this school year, and yesterday I felt the most at ease because I have had some experience in Microsoft. I had forgotten a lot about the insertion of clip art, word art, and things like that, but some of it did come back. Today when I had some free time, I was playing around with creating my student handout and parent letter, and I really liked what I could do. Unfortunately, I left my syllabus in the car, so wasn't able to refer to it for some of the tricks I'd written down, but I was glad I could muddle through things and come up with a not half-bad product. I'm very much looking forward to trying to do a brochure and a business card. Then I can pretend to be whomever I want :) ........
When Using the Draw Tools
As you begin using the "Draw" Toolbar and AutoShapes you may run into a problem with something called the "Drawing Canvas" always automatically popping up when you go to insert a shape. If this is causing a problem for you when you're trying to insert AutoShapes, you can get rid of it but going to the Standard Toolbar, click on Tools. On the dropdown menu select Options. Select the General Tab and uncheck the "Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes". Then click OK and it should not show up anymore.

Tools
I found out I don't know much about microsoft and all the tools available. I liked the clip art and being able to move the picture around it is very convenient. I did not know how to add my own pictures to a document. Using borders was great to learn how to do. Are we going to work on excel at all during the class? I have a few questions about excel.
problem with textbox
I am trying to put numbers next to a graphic table that I copy/pasted from excel. The only way I can get the number there is to put them in a text box. Any ideas how I get the outline of a textbox off...or other way to do it?
PS. Thanks for the help with the pictures and moving them around!!!! That was always a problem!

1st Day
Great review last night of word. Looking forward to learning how to do brochures and posters in the coming weeks. Have a great day! 1st blog ever.
Time Saver
I was so happy to learn how to manipulate the clip art! This has relieved a ton of stress already and will save many hours in the future! I also have questions about the auto format when I am in text document and hope we can learn how to better use that tool.
Time
I know this is not on the topic of word, but the reason the post times are off is they seem to default to Pacific Time, which is two hours behind us. I think the blog administrator can change this option. I know its something small, but if you do this with a class, you might want to check on this setting.

Clip art!
Yes! Learning how to move and change the size of items on clip art is worth the class cost! That drove me crazy and now I know how to do it! Thank you!
Advanced Microsoft
I loved working with the borders and adding them to a word document. The ability to add colors and shading is awesome. Right now I am on a brain overload.
View the word documents
How can one set the viewing of documents in the w: file? I would like to default it to "list" rather than "thumbnails, tiles and/or icons."
Question for anyone...
I have 2 issues that drive me crazy:
1. Setting margins - I never get them to work right by just dragging the arrow
2. Auto formats - I try to shut them off, and seem to mess up my whole page, especially if I am taking work from 1 document and trying to insert into another where formating has already been done.
Thank you in advance for addressing this question.

Advanced Word Class Feb 3
Look forward to having some fun exploring igoogle from home. Enjoyed practicing the WordArt, picture insert, and Clipart features. I had never known of the "tight" feature to move images around the page, so I practiced that quite a bit (to help remember it). There's so much to try to remember that I wish I had a crib sheet to refer back to...
Advanced Microsoft Word...Day 1
I am happy to be taking this class so that I can learn some tricks of the Microsoft Word trade to make my day-to-day teaching easier and more technologically up-to-date. Plus, with having one of the instructors, the mahhhvelous Ms. Chris L, in my building all day long, I know I can run to her on my prep if I get stuck on an assignment, so this class should be stress-free...yipee:)
